The Matra MS80 was a Formula 1 racing car that was built by Matra in 1969 . With the MS80, Jackie Stewart won five world championship races and thus his first driver title in the Formula 1 world championship; the constructor title also went to Matra.

The MS80 was the most successful Matra monoposto , and the car was only in use for one season. As with the MS10 , only two copies of the MS80 were built. It was thanks to the meticulous preparation of the racing cars by the Tyrrell Racing organization and the driving style of the two drivers Jackie Stewart and Jean-Pierre Beltoise that they got through the season with both chassis without any major damage.

Bernard Boyer based his design on the stable structures of the early Formula 2 matras such as the MS7 . The tanks, which had a capacity of 210 liters, were housed in the extended flanks. In the professional world one spoke of a cola bottle line . The car had external suspensions, internal rear brakes and a geometry that was matched to the new 13-inch wheels from Dunlop . The rear wing also served as an engine cover and the car was considered aesthetically very successful. The tried and tested 8-cylinder DFV motor from Cosworth was used as the drive .

At the Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza , the rear wing was dismantled to optimize air resistance.

At the end of the season, the successful collaboration between Matra and Ken Tyrrell ended . In 1970 Matra went back to the starting line with a purely factory team and presented the MS120 as the successor to the MS80 .
