Matteo Ricci Petrocchini (born December 6, 1826 in Macerata , † February 10, 1896 in Florence ) was an Italian writer and politician.

Matteo Ricci was the son of Marchese Domenico Ricci and Countess Elisa Graziani. On September 16, 1852, in Cornigliano , he married Alessandrina Taparelli d'Azeglio, daughter of the famous Piedmont statesman Massimo d'Azeglio and niece of Alessandro Manzoni , who acted as a witness at the wedding.

Ricci published a posthumous edition of the writings that remained unpublished after Azeglio's death.

In 1890 he was appointed Senator of the Kingdom of Italy. He was a corresponding member of the Accademia delle Scienze di Torino since 1856 and a full member from 1865 , and he was admitted to the Accademia della Crusca in 1883. There he was also involved in lexicographical work, but mainly served as a representative of the academy at public events.
