Matthäus Bader

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matthäus Bader (* around 1550 in Landau in the Palatinate ; † late 1598 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German pedagogue and author.

Since Bader, son of the Landau citizen Mathis Bader or von Dahn, appears in Landau's records as a student (at a school not mentioned) as early as 1565, he was probably born around 1550. In 1568 he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg . In 1573 he became the top schoolmaster at the Landau Latin School . On May 17, 1574 he married Margaretha, the daughter of Hans Schwab. In 1584 he was enrolled at the University of Heidelberg . Apparently he was also a teacher in Heidelberg in 1583. On March 24, 1584 he became rector of the city high school for barefooters in Frankfurt am Main. His service letter shows the range of his tasks.

In addition to contributions to the works of others, he wrote a school dictionary Rerum naturae ordo et series seu Nomenclator latinogermanicus, printed in Frankfurt in 1598 . It was edited in 1614 by the Strasbourg publisher Paul Ledertz and put to the press again.
