Matt Barlow (2010)

Matthew Barlow (born March 10, 1970 in Biloxi , Mississippi ) is an American metal singer. He was lead singer of the power metal band Iced Earth from 1995 to mid-2003 and from 2008 to 2011 .

Barlow joined Iced Earth as the new singer in 1994 and contributed lyrics and vocals to the albums Burnt Offerings (1995), The Dark Saga (1996), Something Wicked This Way Comes (1998) and Horror Show (2001). In 2003, however, he was replaced by band leader Jon Schaffer by former Judas Priest singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens .

Barlow joined the power metal band Pyramaze in 2007 and sang the album Immortal there, but left the band shortly after the recordings. In December of the same year he confirmed his return to Iced Earth. The following year Iced Earth released The Crucible of Man (Something Wicked Part 2) , in which Barlow took over the vocals again.

In early March 2011, Barlow announced his final resignation from Iced Earth after the 2011 summer festivals in Europe. He cited the lack of time for his family as motivation. His last show with the band took place on August 6, 2011 at the Wacken Open Air .

In August 2012 he formed a new band called Ashes of Ares together with Freddie Vidales (ex-bass player of Iced Earth) and Van Williams (ex-drummer of Nevermore) . At the beginning of 2018 Barlow founded the Sentinels project together with the Pyramaze keyboarder Jonah Weingarten . The duo released the album We are Sentinels on July 6, 2018 .
