Ashes of Ares is an American heavy and power metal band that was formed in 2012.

history

The band was formed in 2012 by former Nevermore drummer Van Williams and ex- Iced Earth members Matthew Barlow (vocals) and Freddie Vidales (bass). The band name comes from Barlow and goes back to the Greek god of war Ares . The band was supported live by the guitarist Gio Geraca ( Malevolent Creation , Hateplow ) and the bassist Dean Sternberg (among others, the former singer with Into Eternity ). Her self-titled debut album was released on Nuclear Blast in September 2013 . The sound carrier was recorded by producer Jim Morris at Morrisound Recording . The release was followed by a European tour in September and October , which also included Powerwolf , Majesty and Battle Beast . The tour included appearances in Germany , the UK and France . The trio is supported live by bassist Sternberg and guitarist Charlie Honig. In 2013 the band also performed at ProgPower USA and the Rock Hard Festival . In October 2018 the band released their second Αlbum "Well of Souls".

style

According to Freddie Vidales, the band has been influenced by groups like Iron Maiden , Slayer , Saxon , Behemoth , Machine Head , Death Angel and Queensrÿche . According to Marc Halupczok from Metal Hammer , the band plays heavy metal in the style of Iced Earth. Katrin Riedl from Metal Hammer described the music on the album as classic heavy metal. She described the singing as outstanding. The song Punishment is as dark as a song by Metallica . Ray Van Horn, Jr. from Blabbermouth.net assigned the band to Power Metal in his review of the album. The singing moves from tenor to countertenor and occasionally lapses into bass . The song The Messenger brings back memories of Queensrÿche.
