Matthew John Lewis (born June 6, 1990 in Sydney ) is an Australian football player .

Career

Lewis played in the youth division of the Blacktown City Demons since U-11 and was the captain of an Australian national school team on a trip to Japan in 2008. In the summer of 2008 he moved to the youth team of the Central Coast Mariners and initially played in the National Youth League . Lewis made his professional debut in the A-League on the last day of the 2008/09 season against Adelaide United when he was substituted on for Dylan Macallister shortly before the end of the game . Subsequently, Lewis, who was mostly in the left midfield position, was also part of the Mariners' professional squad during the 2009 AFC Champions League , but was not used. During the break of the season, he gained match practice at Blacktown in the NSW Premier League and received a one-year contract with the Mariners for the 2009/10 season , which was extended for another year shortly after his starting eleven in November 2009.
