The Matthews Glacier is a glacier on the Orville coast of West Antarctica Ellsworthland . It flows on the eastern flank of the Wilkins Mountains in a southerly direction to the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf , which it reaches immediately west of the Dodson Peninsula .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1961 and 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the glacier in 1968 after J. D. Matthews, machinist at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in 1963.
