The Dodson Peninsula is an icy, around 60 km long peninsula at the Orville Coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthlands . It lies south of Hansen Inlet and is completely enclosed by the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf on its western flank.
She was discovered during the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) under the direction of the US polar explorer Finn Ronne . Ronne named the peninsula in honor of two contributors to his expedition: Henry LeLuce Dodson (1896-1969) was director of the American Antarctic Society , which acted as the organizing body for the research trip. The second namesake is his son Robert Haskins Thomas Dodson (* 1926), assistant geologist, geodesist and lead dog sled driver at Ronne's research trip.
