Matthias Arter

Matthias Arter (born October 10, 1964 in Zurich ) is a Swiss oboist , composer , lecturer , interpretation researcher and has been president of the Swiss Tonkünstlerverein since 2007 .

Life

Arter studied with Peter Fuchs and Thomas Indermühle at the Zurich University of Music. Further studies and master classes took place with Heinz Holliger and Maurice Burgue (Freiburg i. Br.). Working with his ensembles Octomania, Arion-Quintett, æquatuor and pre-art soloists accompanied and shaped him. He gave regular recitals with various instrumental partners (piano, harp, guitar) with a repertoire that ranges from the Renaissance to the latest music. With pre-art, a nonprofit organization founded by himself and Boris Previsic, he also pursues an intercultural and transdisciplinary work that mainly focuses on the countries of Southeast Central Europe and the Caucasus.

Performances of his compositions at the Tage für Neue Musik Zürich, in the music podium of the city of Zürich, as well as at other festivals in Switzerland, Germany, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Canada and Albania. Solo CD productions a. a. at MGB, ECM, Arte Nova pan classics, col legno, and en avant. In Neos has appeared also a CD with some of his solo pieces.

Matthias Arter also works as a conductor, teaches oboe, chamber music and improvisation at the Bern University of the Arts and works as principal oboist in the Basel Chamber Orchestra and the Collegium Novum Zurich .

As an interpretation researcher, Arter is concerned with recordings from the early days of sound recording (up to approx. 1935), from which he gains knowledge for the interpretation traditions of the 19th century. One of his projects dealt with the recordings of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony (1910-1933).
