Matthias Berg (born October 3, 1961 in Dortmund ) is a German lawyer and horn player as well as an athlete and sports official.

Life

Until 2015 Matthias Berg was the first state official and thus deputy district administrator in the Esslingen district office and an internationally active horn soloist and pedagogue. Berg is a Contergan victim .

He studied in Freiburg same law at the Albert-Ludwigs-University and Horn at the Academy of Music at Ifor James .

In 1981 Berg won first prize in the national competition " Jugend musiziert "; In 1986 he was awarded the “Prix Spécial de Classique” at the international horn competition in Toulon .

As a disabled athlete, he was a member of the national alpine skiing team for the disabled from 1980 to 1994 and competed in the disciplines of slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom and downhill skiing. From 1980 to 1992 he belonged to the national athletics team for the disabled with the disciplines 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, long jump and high jump. During this time he competed in all Paralympics (27 medals - 11 gold, 10 silver and 6 bronze) and world championships. He was also 39 times German champion in disciplines as diverse as skiing and athletics.

Today he often appears as a specialist in Paralympics broadcasts on German television. In 2012 he received the German Paralympic Media Award . As a functionary, he represents disabled sports in both national and international bodies, right up to the IOC.

Berg's parents are the pianist and former director of the Federal Academy for Musical Youth Education Hans-Walter Berg (* 1931), as well as the musicologist Karin Berg-Kotterba.
