Matthias Hofbauer (born May 22, 1981 ) is a Swiss floorball player. With 157 games he is currently the record national player (as of September 2016) in the Swiss national team .

His younger brother Christoph Hofbauer is also a floorball player.

Career

Hofbauer developed into one of the best players in the world at the top Swiss club SV Wiler-Ersigen , for whom he has played since 1994. In 1999 he made his debut in the Swiss national team. In 2000 he won bronze with her at the World Cup in Norway . In 2002 he moved abroad for the first time: he played one season in Sweden for Jönköpings IK . He then returned to Wiler-Ersigen and was able to win three Swiss championships over the next few years. In 2004 he was top scorer at the home World Cup in Zurich and Kloten . In 2005 he also won the European Cup with Wiler-Ersigen. In 2005/06 he played his strongest season so far (as of 2010): In 31 games he scored 94 points (39 goals and 55 assists). For the 2007/08 season he was loaned from his home club together with his brother Christoph to the Swedish club IBK Dalen . He had previously signed a contract with Wiler until 2013. In Sweden he was appointed Dalen's captain in 2008. At the 2010 World Cup in Finland he was top scorer with 20 points. However, the Swiss team failed to win a medal.

After winning the bronze medal at the 2018 World Cup in the Czech Republic, Hofbauer announced his retirement from the national team on December 9, 2018.

Hofbauer is also self-employed with his own floorball business.
