Matthias Hofherr

Mat (t) hias Hofherr (* 1829 in Moosbeuren ( Oberstadion municipality , Baden-Württemberg ); † May 4, 1909 in Vienna ) was an Austrian industrialist.

Life

Hofherr trained as a locksmith and then went on the roll . In 1869/70 he founded the sole proprietorship M. Hofherr in Vienna at Erlachgasse 19, 20 (today 10th district, then still 4th district) and subsequently ran it with his sons Rudolf, Albert and Richard. In 1881 he teamed up with the Hungarian-born Johann Schrantz and founder of the Hutter & Schrantz company and founded the company Hofherr & Schrantz . After the merger with the Vienna branch of the English agricultural machinery manufacturer Clayton-Shuttleworth (1911), this company developed into the leading producer of agricultural machinery in Austria-Hungary and was temporarily (until 1941) "Hofherr-Schrantz-Clayton-Shuttleworth" (HSCS).

The court lord was buried in the evangelical section of the Vienna Central Cemetery in Simmering (Central Cemetery, Gate 4, 1st Rondeau, No. 7). Josef Grünhut designed his tomb and alludes to the agricultural machinery industry.

In 1909 Reisingergasse in the 10th district was renamed after him (Hofherrgasse) and in 1971 Holzmanngasse in the 21st district was renamed Hofherr-Schrantz-Gasse.
