Matthias Hoppe (born December 17, 1958 in Aschaffenburg ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper who played in the top German division for EV Füssen , Berliner SC and Schwenninger Wild Wings . He also played 25 games for the German national ice hockey team .

Career

Matthias Hoppe was on the ice in the junior division of EV Füssen and the junior national team until 1977 . After the goalkeeper made his Bundesliga debut for the Allgäu in the 1976/77 season , he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for the Mannheim ERC , with whom he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga. He then went to the German ice hockey record champion Berliner SC for three seasons, replacing Erich Weishaupt .

He then moved to the Black Forest for the Schwenninger ERC , for which he stood between the posts between 1982 and 1999 for a total of 17 seasons. During this time he also played 25 games for the German national ice hockey team and was appointed to the 1989 World Cup , where he remained without a World Cup appearance. After 20 years and 960 games in the top German league ( 1st Bundesliga and DEL ), Hoppe ended his active career after the 1998/99 season and dedicated himself to his textile printing company.

In 2004, the 45-year-old goalkeeper made a comeback in the Wild Wings goal in the 2nd Bundesliga when he played a few more games for the Swans at the request of then coach Mike Bullard .

Achievements and Awards

  • 1978 Promotion to the 1st Bundesliga with the Mannheim ERC
  • Was inducted into the "Hockey Hall of Fame Germany" .
  • Hoppe's shirt number # 27 was banned by the Schwenninger Wild Wings and no longer given to any player internally (the exception was his son Fabian Hoppe when he played a few games for the SERC with his father's shirt number in the 2009/10 season).
