Matthias Johann Meyer
Matthias Johann Meyer , in short: Matthias Meyer , (* Heilsberg , † July 1737 in Heiligelinde ) was a Baroque painter in the Bishopric of Warmia and neighboring Duchy of Prussia .

After his talent became known through his first painting work in the village church of Reichenberg near Heilsberg, thanks to the support of Bishop Teodor Potocki he was able to undertake two study trips to Italy, where he was able to get to know the latest achievements of the illusionistic fresco painting ( quadrature painting ) founded by Andrea Pozzo .
His first and largest work after his return to Warmia was the painting of the newly built pilgrimage church Heiligelinde (1723–1727), commissioned by Bishop Potocki, in the Duchy of Prussia neighboring the Warmia . In 1727 he also created the frescoes in the Potocki Chapel on the Cathedral of Gniezno, designed by Pompeo Ferrari , and designed by Pompeo Ferrari as the burial chapel of his patron, who has since become Archbishop of Gnesen and Primate of Poland .
