Matthias Langer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matthias Langer , (born July 3, 1765 in Siegen , † February 20, 1833 in Montabaur ) was a German writer and manufacturer . He became known for his autobiography, which describes his experiences during the Franco-Austrian war in Siegerland . During this time the population experienced arbitrary acts by foreign soldiers and mercenaries, billeting for months and extortionate demands for delivery.

After his apprenticeship as a hosiery weaver, Matthias Langer was first a messenger for Freudenberg , then for Hilchenbach , and finally for Ferndorf, and had to walk there several times a week from Siegen . But soon he was working in the Dresler factory and became a factor in the Siamos weaving mill in Feudingen . A marriage made him the manager of the paper mill in Haiger free. But that was not the last station of this versatile and hardworking man, whose numerous poems have attracted great attention.
