Matthias Schlösser

Matthias Schlösser (born July 7, 1865 in Kohlscheid (today Herzogenrath ), † May 25, 1944 in Aachen ) was a social democratic politician.

Matthias Schlösser was born as the son of a machine attendant in Grube Spiedel (near Kohlscheid). He practiced the profession of a needler. He came into contact with a wide variety of workers' organizations. First he became a member of a Catholic workers' association, but switched to the SPD in January 1889 . After the death of Hubert Krewinkel he was elected the top representative of social democracy in the Aachen area. From 1898 to 1905 he was the district representative of Aachen-Land. He was chairman of the Stadtaachen party association until 1904.

In December 1898 he was a founding member of the Association of German Miners in the Wurmrevier . From November 1, 1904 to May 1, 1929 he took over the management of the district organization full-time.

The Social Democrats in the Aachen district sent Matthias Schlösser to the Upper Rhine party congresses in 1901, 1904, 1908 and 1911. In 1905 he was a candidate for the Aachen city council elections, and in 1913 he ran for the Prussian state parliament.

Schlösser was temporarily expelled from the occupied Rhineland in 1923 due to his political activities.

On May 25, 1944, Matthias Schlösser was killed in a bomb attack on Aachen.
