Matthias Sckell
Matthias Sckell (* 1760 in Schwetzingen ; † around 1816 in Munich ) was a German landscape gardener . He came from the Sckell family of painters and gardeners and was the brother of Friedrich Ludwig Sckell .
Life
Between 1780 and 1793, Sckell was court gardener to Charles II Augustus of Pfalz-Zweibrücken at Karlsberg Castle near Homburg. His son Carl August Sckell was born here. In 1782, together with his brother, he designed the park of the Herzogsschlösschen in Landshut for Duke Wilhelm . He then worked as a court gardener in Rohrbach near Heidelberg . In 1801 he came to Nymphenburg as a court gardener , so that his son Carl August Sckell received his first training there. After his death he became his successor. He had two other sons, Ludwig , who worked as a court gardener in Schleissheim, and Friedrich Sckell , who worked as a court gardener in Berg am Wurmsee.
