Carl August Sckell

Carl August Sckell (born November 14, 1793 in Karlsberg ; † July 10, 1840 in Munich ), also spelling Karl Sckell or Skell, was a German garden architect and lithographer from the Sckell family of painters and gardeners . He held the office of a Bavarian court garden manager .

Life

Sckell's father was the ducal court gardener Matthias Sckell (1760–1816). He was a student of his uncle Friedrich Ludwig Sckell , whose son-in-law he had been since 1819. His training was completed by study trips to Berlin , London , Paris and Vienna . In 1834 he traveled to Italy . In 1816, after the death of his father, he took over his duties. In 1823 he succeeded Friedrich Ludwig Sckell as court garden inspector in Nymphenburg, then in 1835 garden director and from 1837 as royal court garden manager. One of his places of activity was the Nymphenburg Palace Gardens . After his death, Karl Ludwig Seitz , the husband of his sister Friederike, succeeded him in office.

Sckell is the author of a garden guide to the Nymphenburg Palace Park with the title The royal pleasure palace Nymphenburg and its gardens . He also made lithographs , such as the view of Lake Badenburg in Nymphenburg. Likewise, the drawing of the plan of the English Garden in Munich measured by Carl Effner is his work.

Sckell had been married to his cousin Therese Sckell since 1819, with whom he had four children. In 1842 she lived at Arcisstrasse 12 in Munich's Maxvorstadt .
