Matthias Wolff (born February 17, 1955 in Potsdam ) is a German biologist and professor for ecological modeling at the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology in Bremen .

Life

Wolff studied biology until 1981, with a focus on fishery biology, oceanography and zoology. 1985 doctorate he attended the University of Kiel Dr. rer. nat. In 1995 he completed his habilitation at the University of Bremen and in 1997 he was appointed professor at the Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology. There he co-founded the ZMT ISATEC master’s course .

From 2007 to 2010 he was a board member of the Ecuadorian Charles Darwin Foundation , where he was Director for Marine Research.

Wolff researches concepts of aquatic ecology, fishery biology and population dynamics as well as resource management. He was particularly interested in the El Niño effect on marine animals. He models trophic food webs in the Pacific.

In 2014 Wolff received an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Nacional de Piura in Peru.
