Matti Aikio
Matti Aikio (born June 18, 1872 in Karasjok ; † July 25, 1929 in Oslo; actually Mathis Isaksen ) was Norway's first Sami poet .
Life
Matti Aikio was born the son of a teacher. Among other things, he studied education in Trondheim . Aikio worked as a teacher between 1896 and 1906 in Finnmark and southern Norway .
It was not until 1890, at the age of 18, that Aikio learned the Norwegian language . It was in this language that he wrote his novels and dramas. In it he drew a precise picture of the difficult everyday life of the Sami minority and their struggle for independence.
Matti Aikio died in Karasjok in 1929 at the age of 57.
