Mattie Montgomery (born July 24, 1987 in Sioux City , Iowa ) is an American metalcore singer. He is active in the Christian metalcore band For Today and has sung four albums with this band. He has also published three spoken word albums on evangelical themes.

Life

Mattie Montgomery was raised in a Christian household as a son. His mother, a choir singer, brought him closer to singing. Initially an ambitious football player , he began to listen to Nu Metal at the age of 14/15, especially Korn and Limp Bizkit , before he began to discover harder Christian music for himself and found Jesus.

Mattie Montgomery began his musical career with the band Earth vs. Spider. This was followed by the Christian melodic death metal band Besieged , with whom he recorded the album Atlantis (2007). He then moved to the metalcore band For Today in 2007, replacing original singer Matt Tyler. He sings it on all of the band's albums, except for the first self-financed EP.

In 2010, Montgomery's first spoken word album was released with the title When the Sons Become Fathers . The Keys to Open Ancient Gates followed in 2011 , for which he also published a book of the same name. See the Storm followed in 2013 .

controversy

When Mike Reynolds was fired for homophobic statements on For Today in 2013 , Mattie Montgomery tried to mediate. He made several comments on homosexuality, many of which were ambiguous. He did not take back Reynolds' statement "Homosexuality is a sin", but argued in favor of same-sex marriage . Nevertheless, he verbally draws a line between homosexuality and Christianity. His statement titled Homosexulity and the Rebellious Church , however, also contained homophobic passages and was removed from his website after a metal site picked up the post and reproduced it in full, and the controversial passages were cut and republished.
