Maud Linder

Maud Lydie Linder (born June 27, 1924 - † October 25, 2017 ) was a French journalist , film historian and documentary filmmaker .

Life

Maud Linder was born in 1924 as the only daughter of the silent film star Max Linder and his wife Hélène Peters. Her parents jointly committed suicide in October 1925 . She grew up with her grandparents, who told her little about their parents.

It was not until she was 20 that she saw a film by her father for the first time and decided to make his works accessible to the public again. In years of detailed work, she tracked down around 100 of her father's films and restored some of them. Some of the films were previously thought to be lost .

In addition, she worked as a journalist since the 1950s and later also worked in film, among other things as an assistant director , mainly for Jean-Paul Le Chanois . In 1963 she shot and produced the documentary In Gesellschaft Max Linder , which was awarded the Étoile de Cristal for Best Film in 1963 . On the occasion of the 100th birthday of her father, the documentary film The Man with the Silk Hat was made in 1983 .

In 1990 she organized a Max Linder Festival at the Musée d'Orsay . In 2013 Jean-Michel Meurice portrayed Linder in his documentary Max Linder - My Father, the Movie Star .
