Idea, creation and opening

At the suggestion of the district administrator Peer Giesecke to create a work of art as a reminder of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the district of Teltow-Fläming announced a competition for art in public space , in which 14 artists took part and which the sculptor Kerstin Becker from Wildau-Wentdorf won.

The artist's basic idea was to depict the overcoming, penetration and opening of walls. On a base plate are five three meter high steel plates with a rusty, slightly curved surface, which symbolize the wall. Figures punched out climb and climb over four of the (permeable) wall segments. Depending on the viewer's point of view, there are different perspectives and perspectives.

The festive inauguration of the monument east of the B 96 took place on November 6th, 2009. Greetings were given by Klaus Wowereit ( Governing Mayor ), Peer Giesecke (District Administrator) and Ekkehard Band (District Mayor of Tempelhof-Schöneberg ).

The monument was realized by the steel construction company SIAG Finsterwalde GmbH based on the artist's designs .
