Wall tower on the Oberanger
The wall tower on the Oberanger in Lauingen , a town in the Swabian district of Dillingen on the Danube , was part of the former town fortifications . The wall tower behind the parish church of St. Martin , after the house in Oberanger 1, is a protected architectural monument .
description
The floor plan of the wall tower consists of a three-quarter circle. The side on which the city wall was originally attached is flattened. The three-storey brick building, with a storey separation in the form of a narrow strip of cornice above the second storey, now has simple rectangular openings in the basement at the point where loopholes were originally located. The top floor is divided by a frieze of pointed arches between narrow pilaster strips on consoles . The eaves cornice and the crenellated crown were added in the second half of the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style.
Tombstones
From the abandoned cemetery of the parish church, tombstones were inserted into the tower . Parts of the inscription are still legible from the fragment of the grave slab for Martin Ruland (1532–1602), councilor from the Palatinate and city physician of Lauingen, which was broken several times . Another tombstone with a coat of arms is better preserved.
