Maureen Macmillan (born February 9, 1943 in Oban ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party .

Macmillan attended Oban High School , then studied English at Edinburgh University and graduated with a Masters . After receiving her license to teach, she worked for many years as a teacher, including at Millburn Academy in Inverness .

Political career

For the first time Macmillan appeared in the Scottish general election in 1999 to national elections. She did not apply for the direct mandate of a constituency, but for one of the seven mandates to be awarded in the Highlands and Islands electoral region . She took second place on the Labor Party's regional electoral list and, as a result of the election result, was one of three Labor Party candidates for the Highlands and Islands in the newly created Scottish Parliament . In the 2003 general election , she succeeded Donnie Munro as a candidate for the direct mandate of the constituency of Ross, Skye and Inverness West . The mandate holder John Farquhar Munro of the Liberal Democrats , however, won the election and Macmillan was only the third highest number of votes. However, she defended her mandate of the electoral region. At the 2007 parliamentary elections Macmillan did not initially take longer, but then ran again for Ross, Skye and Inverness West. Once again, she received only the third highest number of votes and thus left the Scottish Parliament.
