Maurice Delbouille
Maurice Delbouille (born January 26, 1903 in Chênée, Liège ; † October 30, 1984 in Chênée, Liège) was a Belgian Romance and Medievalist .
life and work
Delbouille studied in Liège with Maurice Wilmotte and Auguste Doutrepont . In 1923 he received his doctorate on Le genre pastoral en France avant la Renaissance (published by Les Origines de la pastourelle , Brussels 1926), then he heard in Paris with Joseph Bédier , Alfred Jeanroy , Mario Roques and Edmond Faral , and in Florence with Pio Rajna .
Delbouille taught at the University of Liège from 1929 to 1973 . His students included Louis Remacle , Jules Horrent , Maurice Piron , Jean Renson , Georges Lavis , Madeleine Tyssens , Jeanne Wathelet-Willem , and Louis Chalon . He was an associate editor of Le Moyen Age magazine . From 1940 he belonged to the Académie royale de Belgique.
Delbouille was mayor of Chênée (later incorporated in Liège) for 25 years and Belgian senator for 10 years. He was a member of the socialist party and was politically active in the Walloon movement.
