Maurice Fischer

Maurice Fischer (born January 23, 1903 in Antwerp , † August 19, 1965 ) was an Israeli diplomat.

Fischer emigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine in 1930 . During the Second World War he fought in the Forces françaises libres in Lebanon . In 1946 he went to Paris as a representative of the Jewish Agency . After the founding of the state of Israel, he became the first Israeli ambassador to France in 1949 . He held this office until 1952. Then he replaced Eliahu Sasson as envoy in Turkey and represented Israel there until 1956. In 1960 he was appointed ambassador to Italy by Golda Meir . He held this office until 1965.
