Maurice Valentin Borrel
Maurice Valentin Borrel (born July 24, 1804 in Montataire , Oise department ; † March 29, 1882 in Chevilly-Larue , Val-de-Marne department ) was a French medalist .
Life
Maurice Valentin Borrel spent his youth in very poor circumstances in Savoy and came to Paris in 1816 , where he became a student of the coin engraver Jean-Jacques Barre and made his debut in 1833. In 1836 he became a coin engraver in Monaco and from 1840 onwards he created an important series of highly valued portrait and commemorative medals that came to the Musée de la Monnaie and were widely recognized at the 1867 World's Fair .
His son Alfred Borrel also became a coin engraver.
