Alfred Borrel (born August 18, 1836 in Paris , † 1927 ) was a French medalist . He was the son and student of Maurice Valentin Borrel .

biography

After his school education at the Lycée Saint-Louis , he attended the École des Beaux-Arts from 1856 and was in the sculpture class with François Jouffroy . He was also a student of the medalist Louis Merley .

In 1860 Borrel won his first competition, the second prize at the Prix ​​de gravure en médaille et pierres fines for his medal on the subject of "Un guerrier triomphant dépose une palme sur l'autel du dieu Mars".

Between 1868 and 1895 Alfred Borrel designed numerous medallions and plaques both as commissioned work for private individuals and institutions. He has won several prizes and has also received several awards from the Ministére des Beaux-Arts (Ministry of Culture). At the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 , he received the silver medal for designing a plaque. He also created various coins for the island of Crete and the overseas colony of Martinique .
