Bormolini won the silver medal in snowboard cross at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2011 in Rejdice . He made his debut in the Snowboard World Cup in December 2011 in Carezza , which he finished in 34th place in the parallel slalom. At the 2014 Junior Snowboarding World Championships in Chiesa in Valmalenco , he won the silver medal in the parallel slalom and also achieved fifth place in the parallel giant slalom. After finishing 32nd in Carezza at the beginning of the 2015/16 season, he achieved his first top ten placement in the World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo with fourth place in the parallel slalom. At the following World Cup in Bad Gastein , he came second in the parallel slalom. At the end of the season he achieved 13th place in the Parallel World Cup and eighth place in the Parallel Slalom World Cup. In April 2016 he became Italian champion in parallel slalom. In the 2016/17 season, with five top ten placements, he reached 15th place in the Parallel World Cup and sixth place in the Parallel Giant Slalom World Cup. At the season highlight of the 2017 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada , he finished 13th in the parallel giant slalom. The following season he came 19th in the Parallel World Cup and fourth in the Parallel Slalom World Cup. He achieved third place in the parallel slalom in Bad Gastein. In the 2019/20 season he was third in Bannoye and second in the parallel slalom in Bad Gastein, thus achieving 11th place in the parallel world cup and fifth place in the parallel slalom world cup.
Bormolini has so far participated in 58 World Cups and was among the top ten 18 times. Since 2009 he has also started in the European Cup. He has won 12 victories so far, taking first place in the 2014/15 season and second place in the 2016/17 season in the parallel ranking (as of the end of the 2019/20 season).
