Mauro Bigonzetti

Mauro Bigonzetti (* 1960 in Rome ) is an Italian choreographer and dancer .

life and work

Bigonzetti trained as a dancer at the Rome Opera Ballet School . After graduating, he was accepted into their company . In 1982 he moved to the Aterballetto in Reggio nell'Emilia . He danced there in all the pieces on the program and worked out a repertoire with pieces by George Balanchine and Léonide Massine . In 1990 he created his first own choreography, Sei in movimento, to music by Johann Sebastian Bach .

In 1992 he left the Aterballetto to work as a freelance choreographer in collaboration with the Balletto di Toscana . He quickly gained an international reputation. He has worked for leading houses worldwide such as the English National Ballet , the Ballet National de Marseille , the Ballet des Teatro Argentino , the Brazilian Balè da Cidade de São Paulo , the Ballet Gulbenkian in Lisbon , the New York City Ballet and others. In Italy the La Scala in Milan , the Rome Opera, the Arena di Verona and the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples performed his pieces. In Germany, the ballet of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the ballet of the Dresden Semperoper show his pieces. He created specially choreographies for the Stuttgart Ballet and Gauthier Dance .

In 1997 he was appointed artistic director and first choreographer of the Aterballetto. In 2008 he handed over the artistic direction to Cristina Bozzolini, but remained associated with the Aterballetto as principal choreographer .
