Maurus of Trauner OSB (* 1624 , † 7. August 1670 in Regensburg ) was a German Benedictine in monastery Prüfening and later Abbot in Frauenzell Abbey .

biography

Maurus von Trauner came from the noble von Trauner family . He had made his profession in the convent near Regensburg (1745) and had held the office of prior here .

On September 10, 1658, Maurus von Trauner was postulated as abbot in Frauenzell after the local conventuals, after Abbot Placidus Hoertinger resigned from office, initially failed to agree on a successor for a long time and apparently did not find a suitable candidate in their own ranks. On the following day, the election of the new abbot was confirmed by the Regensburg Bishop Franz Wilhelm Graf von Wartenberg and his benediction. Under Abbot Maurus von Trauner there was a religious renewal of the monastery in Frauenzell and an improvement in economic conditions. This consolidation was owed to the abbot's clever and economical management, the acquisition of the neighboring Hofmark Altenthann (1664) and a favorable settlement in a long-running legal dispute with the Lords of Brennberg over possessions and rights of the monastery.

Abbot Maurus von Trainer died on August 7, 1670 at the age of 46 in the Regensburg monastery of Sankt Emmeram , where he had gone to convalescence from a more serious illness ( a relative of the prior and later abbot Ignaz von Trauner belonged to the conventuals of this monastery by Abbot Maurus). The body was buried in the Frauenzell monastery church. His tombstone, which survived the demolition and reconstruction of the monastery and church in the 18th century, is now in the cloister of the former monastery.
