Mauthausen is a part of the municipality of Piding in the Berchtesgadener Land district .

The church village lies between the foot of the Hochstaufen and the Pidingerau district . The demarcation to Pidingerau was set on Hosemannstrasse and Untersbergstrasse.

In the district there was once a toll station on the salt road from the (Bavarian) town of Bad Reichenhall to Rupertiwinkel, Salzburg until 1810, or to Teisendorf .

Attractions

  • St. Laurentius , a Romanesque church built around 1200 with valuable Gothic frescoes, today a branch church of the parish of Piding-Anger.
  • Staufeneck Castle , a 12th century castle that was greatly expanded in the early 16th century.
