Mavrokordato (s) ( Greek  Μαυροκορδάτος ), according to other transcription rules also Maurokordatos or Mavrocordat , often also transcribed with voiced Velar Mavrogordato (s) or Maurogordato , is the name of an old-established noble family from Chios and in particular a merchant from the island of Chios Mavrokordatos (Νικόλαος Μαυροκορδάτος; 17th century) declining Phanariotic family. The family originally comes from Kefalonia .

Alexandros Mavrokordatos (1641–1709), first a doctor, then an interpreter in Constantinople, acted as a Grand Logothet, mediating between the patriarchate and the Ottoman government. On behalf of the Sultan, he was instrumental in shaping the Peace of Karlowitz , which he signed for the Ottoman side in 1699, for which Emperor Leopold I raised him to the rank of imperial count. His son Nikolaos Mavrokordatos (1670–1730) was elected from 1709 by the boyars ( dependent on the Sublime Porte ) Prince of Moldavia and Wallachia . His sons Konstantinos and Ioannis also held these offices at times . Constantin's great-nephew, Prince Alexandros (1791-1865), was elected first prime minister after Greece's independence in 1822 and held this office, as well as that of foreign and finance ministers, several times.
