The Mawson Corridor is a 35 km long and 6 to 9 km wide strait off the Mawson coast of the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . This funnel-shaped sea route , which tapers from south to north, represents a connection between the open cooperation lake and Holme Bay and runs between agglomerated icebergs .
Scientists from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions discovered it in 1954. Since then, it has provided safe access to Mawson Station . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it after the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson (1882-1958).
