Life
The Max Arendts family was based in Königsberg in the second generation. For many years, Arendt was the mayor of Königsberg. From 1910 to 1913 he was head of the representative assembly of the Jewish community and from 1908 to 1913 chairman of the Central Poor Commission. He was a well-known member of the Central Association of German Citizens of Jewish Faith and expressly professed to be German . As chairman of the city council, Arendt prohibited the Zionist gymnastics club Makkabi from using city gyms because he suspected that they were anti-German tendencies.

The political theorist Hannah Arendt was the daughter of his son Paul Arendt (1873-1913), who was sick with syphilis and returned to Königsberg in 1910, where his wife Martha cared for him during his infirmity. During this time, Max Arendt took great care of his granddaughter. The Zionist Kurt Blumenfeld also frequented his house at this time .
