Max Arnim

Max (imilian) Otto Adolf Arnim , latinized Maximilianus Otto Adolfus Arnim , (born April 13, 1889 in Clausthal , † August 28, 1946 in Berlin ) was a German classical philologist and librarian .

Life

He was the son of the graduate, mining and metallurgical engineer Albert Arnim, who came from Dardesheim . After attending grammar school in Clausthal, Max Arnim studied at the universities of Göttingen and Greifswald. In 1912 he graduated as Dr. phil. In the following year he passed the state examination and in 1916 the library examination. In 1920 he was appointed library councilor in Göttingen. From 1927 he worked at the Prussian State Library in Berlin and experienced its fate in the Second World War. His main work was the international personal bibliography 1850-1935 , which he created on behalf of the Prussian State Library and published in 1936. Gerhard Bock and Franz Hodes continued this personal bibliography from 1944 and later additions until 1963.

Max Arnim married in Clausthal Kläre Hartmann in 1920, with whom he had a son. They lived together in Berlin-Schmargendorf .
