Joshua Obiesie (born May 23, 2000 in Munich ) is a German basketball player .
career
Obiesie has been playing basketball at MTSV Schwabing eV since she was under ten (U10) . Robert Scheinberg, trainer and sports director of the International Basketball Academy Munich (IBAM) founded for professional training, discovered and promoted his talent. Obiesie already played for the IBAM in the youth basketball league (U16) and is currently still in the U19 team in the youth basketball league . From the 2016/17 season he also received assignments in the men's team of MTSV Schwabing in the 1st regional league. In summer 2018 he was invited to the “NBPA Top 100 Camp”, a viewing event for the North American professional league NBA .
In November 2018 Obiesie signed a contract with Bundesliga club s.Oliver Würzburg , for which he is also used in the FIBA Europe Cup. He continues to play for the IBAM to this day and competed in the 2019 All-Star Game for a selection of the best U19 players from southern Germany against the north.
The left-hander was invited to the Nike Hoop Summit talent show in March 2019 to compete against a team with the most hopeful youngsters from the host country at the event in the United States for a youth world selection. In April 2019, Obiesie signed up for the draft process of the North American professional league NBA , but was not considered there. In the 2018/19 season he was named the best player in the youth basketball league.
National team
In spring 2018 Obiesie won the Albert Schweitzer tournament with the German U18 national team , having previously worn the national jersey in the 3-on-3 basketball version .
In February 2019, he was appointed to the German national team for the first time (and after just five Bundesliga appearances). In July 2019 he won bronze in the U20 selection at the European Championships in Israel .
