Max Ballmann

Carl Max Ballmann ( 1798 in Strasbourg - October 29, 1859 in Leipzig ) was a German theater actor , comedian and opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Ballmann entered the stage in Paderborn for the first time in 1818 under his baptismal name Max. His next engagement was in Weimar in 1820, then he played on several small stages until 1827, when he became a member of the Breslau City Theater in the last year mentioned. This was followed by his activity in Magdeburg from 1829 to 1831. Then he went to Leipzig, where he stayed until his death.

At the end of his career he took on smaller tasks in the opera. He was involved in three world premieres of operas by his friend Albert Lortzing: on February 20, 1837, he sang “Persch” in Die Zwei Schützen , on December 31, 1842, “Pancratius” in Wildschütz and on May 25, 1849, “Prinz Tutatu ”in Roland's Squire .

He was married to his colleague Ida Ballmann .
