The property, which is centrally located in the old town of Erfurt, between Pergamentergasse and Allerheiligenstrasse , was named after possibly used for tournaments , i.e. medieval fighting games with horses. Later it was built on with several stone houses with barrel vaults built next to each other , which the city of Erfurt used to receive and accommodate high guests.

From 1499 to 1504 the property belonged to the Electorate of Mainz, Vizedom Gerlach von der Marthen , the father of the humanist Herbord von der Marthens . In 1528 at the latest, the main building was extensively rebuilt by the von der Marthen family. The various components were combined to form an elongated structure and an additional storey was added. A round stair tower with a stone spiral staircase and an octagonal end was added to provide access . The hall got several large windows with late Gothic curtain arches , and the smaller windows on the gable also got curtain arches. A large sandstone relief with the family coat of arms and the year 1528 was placed in the middle of the east gable .

In later times councilors and woad dealers followed as owners.

In 1833 the roof of the main building also partially burned down in a fire in an outbuilding of the "tournament". The rest of the northeast wing suffered great damage from the extinguishing water. Repair work was only poorly carried out by the owner at the time, the businessman Friedrich Carl Martini.

In 1837 the Erfurt Freemason Lodge " Carl zu den Drei Adlern ", which had been a tenant in the house since 1817, acquired the land and the building. In 1851 she had the destroyed side wing rebuilt to accommodate a box room. Another renovation followed in 1881, in which the round stair tower was replaced by a large staircase with a more comfortable two-flight staircase. In 1911, the side wing built in 1851 was almost completely removed and replaced by a new building with two higher and splendidly furnished halls one above the other.

In 1933 the lodge was banned and expropriated in favor of the city of Erfurt. In 1936 they rebuilt the building to accommodate the municipal health department. In this context, the remaining late Gothic arched curtain windows were destroyed and replaced by simple, uniform rectangular windows. The heraldic relief of the Marthen family was moved over the pointed arch portal. In 1939 the health department moved in and stayed there until 2007. After that, the building ensemble was empty. In 2013, following a bidding process, the real estate company Stefan Brendel & Endres von Tucher acquired the building. It was renovated according to plans by the architect Michael Mann . The apartments were then sold.
