Heinrich Johann Kruspe (born August 19, 1821 in Erfurt ; † April 15, 1893 there ) was a German painter , children's book author and chronicler .

Life

He first attended the Protestant seminary and then the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin . He found his first job in 1843 as an assistant teacher at the Erfurt deaf-mute institution. In 1844 he started his own business as a drawing teacher and book author in Erfurt and lived in Wenigemarkt 2.

In 1850 he made the drawings for Mühlfeld's children's book Die Struwwelsuse , which is based heavily on the model of Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffmann , published 5 years earlier . His two-volume sagas of the city of Erfurt and his Erfurt illustrated chronicle were more successful . The drawings he made from Erfurt's old town are important historical documents today.
