After he was not used for the team coached by Neil Warnock in the Football League Championship 2010/11 , both contract partners agreed at the turn of the year to change on loan.

Yeovil Town

On January 1, 2011, Max Ehmer moved for a month on loan to Yeovil Town in Football League One and made his debut against Plymouth Argyle . After his debut, the lending business was expanded until the end of the season. Ehmer played 27 league games during the season and contributed to Yeovil's relegation . In the summer of 2011, Ehmer was loaned to Yeovil for another six months. After the loan business had meanwhile been extended to the end of the season, he returned early on January 19, 2012 to the Queens Park Rangers.

Preston North End and Stevenage FC

After his return, Ehmer agreed to another loan deal. So he signed on March 16, 2012 a loan deal with third division Preston North End , which was valid until the end of the season. In the second half of the 2012/13 season he moved on loan to Stevenage FC , where he scored his first league goal on April 1, 2013 in a 1-0 home win over Hartlepool United.

Next loan: Carlisle and Gillingham

In November 2013, the next loan to the League One club Carlisle United followed until the end of the season. After his interim return to the Queens Park Rangers Ehmer was loaned again in November 2014, this time to Gillingham FC . In July 2015 he was signed permanently by Gillingham.

Gillingham

In January 2017, Ehmer was named team captain in Gillingham by coach Adrian Pennock . After his release, Ehmer briefly lost the captain's armband to Gabriel Zakuani . He was reappointed captain for the 2019/20 season. On March 9, 2019, Ehmer played his 200th competitive game for Gillingham.
