Max Eichin (born April 22, 1903 in Lörrach ; † February 6, 1990 in Ettlingenweier , City of Ettlingen ) was a German painter and sculptor.

life and work

Eichin began his training as a sculptor at the general trade school in Basel in 1923 . From 1926 he attended Karl Dillinger's painting class at the Baden State Art School in Karlsruhe , and from 1928 he became a master student of Hermann Goebel .

In 1940 he was called up for military service and took part in the war against the Soviet Union . He was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he was released in 1947. Numerous trips to Italy, France and Spain inspired him to create a variety of landscape watercolors and oil paintings. The Paris pictures and the landscapes from the Palatinate reveal the influence of French painting, as it had found its way into the Karlsruhe Academy through Hermann Goebel, Karl Dillinger and Wilhelm Schnarrenberger.

A trip to Morocco had a lasting impact on the artist. The specific colors and light conditions in the Sahara have stimulated him to do multiple works on the desert theme. In the 1960s, more sculptural works were created again, including a bronze bust of Johann Peter Hebel in the park of the same name in Lörrach (1970). In 1985 he made a fountain sculpture "Water carrier" on behalf of the city of Ettlingen.
