The Max Frisch Archive is an independent scientific institution of the Max Frisch Foundation based at the ETH Library . It looks after the estate of the Swiss writer Max Frisch and is available for scientific, journalistic and artistic research.

history

The Max Frisch Archive was preceded by the establishment of the Max Frisch Foundation in 1979. Together with his publisher Siegfried Unseld and the other boards of trustees ( Peter Bichsel , Adolf Muschg and Peter von Matt ), Frisch decided to “create a Max Frisch archive, which should be located in Switzerland, as a place for research”. After the writer's death, the foundation was to take over “the administration of the literary estate with all rights and obligations”.

The Max Frisch Archive was set up in 1980 at the Chair for German Language and Literature at ETH Zurich . In 1981 the German scholar Walter Obschlager started his work as the first archivist. The archive has been accessible to the public since April 1983. In April 2004 a move took place in the premises of the ETH-Bibliothek, in which it has also been administratively integrated since July 2008. The literary scholar Tobias Amslinger has been in charge since September 1, 2016 .

An extensive collection of newspaper and magazine articles, photographs and film recordings, theater posters and programs documents the international distribution and reception of the work.

  • Around 110 linear meters of archive material (typescripts, letters, notebooks, etc.)

Board of Trustees of the Max Frisch Foundation

The composition of the Board of Trustees still corresponds to Frisch's requirements to this day. The committee must include at least one writer and one literary scholar, as well as the publisher of Max Frisch's works and a representative of the family:

The Board of Trustees of the Max Frisch Foundation also forms the jury for the Max Frisch Prize, which is awarded every four years by the City of Zurich and is endowed with CHF 50,000 .
