Markus Notter

Markus Peter Notter (born November 21, 1960 in Dietikon ; resident in Dietikon and Boswil ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Markus Notter attended school in Dietikon. In 1976 he moved to the canton school in Zurich . In 1980 he began studying law at the University of Zurich , which he graduated with a licentiate in 1985 . Notter worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Law and received his doctorate in 1989 with a dissertation in the field of international law . He then worked at the Zurich District Court .

From 1987 to 1996 Notter was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council . From 1990 to 1996 he was the full-time mayor of Dietikon . In 1996 he was elected to the government council as successor to Moritz Leuenberger . He was in charge of the Justice and Home Affairs Directorate. On June 1, 2010, he announced that he would not run for a further term in the general election in spring 2011.

Since 2011 he has been President of the Europa-Institut at the University of Zurich, and since 2012 he has also been President of the Future Foundation for Swiss Travelers . In April 2012 Notter was elected President of the Society for Minorities in Switzerland (GMS). In 2012 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich. He is also President of the Museum Council of the Swiss National Museum , President of the Board of Directors of the Zurich Opera House and, since January 1, 2014, a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund (Suva).

Notter wrote a column in the NZZ on Sunday until October 2015 , and also in Die Zeit until 2013 . He is married and lives in Dietikon.
