Max Günther (politician)

Max Günther (born August 11, 1871 in Glauchau ; † December 1934 ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending primary school, Günther completed an apprenticeship as a basket maker. He then worked in the profession he had learned, which he had practiced in Bernburg since 1890 .

Günther joined the SPD in the 19th century, for which he then worked. From 1889 to December 1908 he worked as an editor for the social democratic newspaper Volksblatt für Anhalt in Dessau , from January 1909 to January 1919 he was party secretary for the state constituency of Anhalt 2 in Bernburg and from February to December 1919 he worked as an editor for the Bernburger Volkswacht . He briefly continued his activity as a basket maker during the First World War . In addition to his partisan work, Günther was involved in the union and was chairman of the Dessau union cartel from 1900 to 1904. From 1904 to 1908 he was chairman of the supervisory board of the consumer association in Dessau and from 1909 to 1919 he exercised the same function in Bernburg.

Günther was a member of the city council in Dessau from 1902 to 1904 and a member of the municipal council in Bernburg from 1914 to 1920. From January to March 1920 he served initially on a provisional basis and from April 1920 until he was transferred to temporary retirement in July 1932 as district director of the Bernburg district .

From 1902 to 1904 Günther was a member of the state parliament in the Duchy of Anhalt . After the First World War, he was a member of the State Constituent Assembly for the Free State of Anhalt from 1918 to 1920 . In June 1920 he was elected as a member of the Anhalt State Parliament, to which he belonged without interruption until June 23, 1933.
