Max Gurny

Max Gurny (born July 17, 1899 in Warsaw as Maksymilian Gurny ; † July 19, 1994 in Zurich ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician ( SP ).

The son of a watchmaker from Pułtusk near Warsaw graduated from the cantonal high school in Zurich and studied law at the University of Zurich from 1917 . In 1921 he received his doctorate under Ernst Hafter with a dissertation on the insult to foreign states and governments under Swiss law. In 1927 he was naturalized in Cureggia and in 1945 in Zurich.

He was Zurich Chief Justice from 1944 , Vice President from 1953 to 1960 and President of the Higher Court from 1961. From 1935 to 1953 he was a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council , where he chaired the Finance Commission from 1947 to 1951. From 1950 to 1955 he was President of the Central Committee of the Swiss Association of Israelites .
