Max Hoffmann (politician)

Max Hoffmann (born October 16, 1872 in Meerane , † November 14, 1958 in Guben ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life

After finishing primary school, Hoffmann completed an apprenticeship as a weaver and attended the weaving school in Meerane. He then worked in the profession he had learned. He joined the union in 1896, worked as a union secretary at the German Textile Workers' Association in Guben from June 1910 to 1921 , and became a member of the branch's board of directors in 1914. He was also a member of the supervisory board of the consumer association and managing director of the Guben building cooperative.

Hoffmann joined the SPD and was chairman of the Social Democrats' education committee. Later he was chairman of the SPD sub-district Guben-Stadt. After the November Revolution , he took part as a delegate of the Workers 'and Soldiers' Council in the Reich Council Congresses that were held in Berlin in December 1918 and April 1919 . In the early 1920s he was an honorary city councilor (department head for housing) and deputy chairman of the city council in Guben. He also acted as chairman of the local health insurance fund Guben-Stadt. In February 1921 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he was a member until 1924.
