He was a son from the first marriage of Max Leopold Ritter Lammer von Castell Rombaldo, who worked as station master in Attnang-Puchheim and in 1909 married the later bank founder Auguste Caroline Lammer . Max Lammer made his acting debut in 1923 at the age of 18 at the Salzburg State Theater . He then played at the Deutsches Theater in Sibiu . This was followed by engagements at the Wiener Kammerspiele , the Berlin Lustspielhaus , the Intimate Theater Nuremberg and the Landesbühne Königsberg. In 1932, Lammer was hired by Max Reinhardt at the Deutsche Theater Berlin . His career was interrupted by the Second World War.
After the war, Lucie Höflich engaged him at the Schwerin State Theater , where he played until 1949. For the following three years Max Lammer was a member of the Hebbel Theater in Berlin. His next stations were the Harburg Theater , the Osnabrück Theater and - from 1957 - the Saarland State Theater . Max Lammer, who specialized in the role of the serious character comedian, also played supporting roles in the movies Salonwagen E 417 (1939) and Black Eyes (1951). He had his last stage roles at the Freiburg Theater , of which he became a member of the ensemble in 1963. A serious illness that led to his death prevented him from accepting an already agreed engagement at the Landestheater Linz .
