Max Nielsen

Max Arthur Lund Thorsø Nielsen (born November 6, 1963 ) is a Danish major general and since 2014 the commander of the Danish air force as Chief for Flyverstaben .

Life

Max Nielsen joined the Danish armed forces in 1983 as a military service and was initially a driver at the Skrydstrup base . After completing the non-commissioned officer course from 1984 to 1985, Nielsen decided to become an officer , completed his officer course from 1986 to 1988 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1988 .

Subsequently, Nielsen was trained as a radar control officer and worked in this area until 1992, including at the Combined Air Operations Center ( CAOC ) in Finderup . He then moved to the Flyvertaktisk Command , which dealt with the development of new strategies for the Air Force, where he held various posts until 1998. In 2000 he worked for a short time in the Ministry of Defense as an office manager, from 2001 to 2002 he was deputy commander of the Danish officers school Flyvevåbnets Officersskole .

From 2002 to 2005, Nielsen was chief of operations in Forsvarskommandoen , the command of the armed forces, and in the same year headed the NATO training mission in Baghdad . He was also promoted to colonel in the same year . From 2008 to 2011 and 2014 he was promoted to Brigadier General again in the Flyvertaktisk Command , first as Chief of Staff and finally as Chief of Command. Between these assignments he represented Denmark at NATO as Deputy Danish Permanent Representative to the Organization and then as Adjutant to the President of the NATO Military Committee .

In August 2014 Nielsen was appointed commander of the Danish armed forces. He had previously been promoted to major general.
